Blog Post #5 & What I know about my topic! (:

what does remarque have to say about war and the human condition, especially as it relates to the young soldiers called to fight?
Remarque basically is saying that the war and the human condition is the same thing. He says that the soldiers fighting the war is like fighting against themselves. We are just killing each other off. And the youngsters are just there with the same situation where Paul and Kat and the others are at. He's saying we are alone the whole time, so why don't we just end the misery and kill everyone off.
What I Already Know About My Topic: Why are we afraid of death, yet love horror films?
I am afraid but the reason why I watch ( I don't think I love horror films.) horror films is because it intrigues and excites me. I am so use to romance/comedy movies that sometimes I just need a break from them! So, I just decied to watch horror/scary movies to keep me interested. After watching so much romance comedies, some endings become so predictable; however, a lot of horror movies vary! Some movies may turn out as you think, but some may not. For example, like the Strangers - you think something would happen to the "STRANGERS" and they will get justice but they end up being the ones alive! As for SHUTTER, the couples turned out split when you thought that the main girl lead already forgive him... In addition, it's a little ridiculous how we pay to get scared! LOL. Like we buy movie tickets, knowing that the film will be scary or we watch REAL HAUNTED stories or we go to theme parks @ Halloween. I guess we know that our life will not end any time soon, so we just watch it for enjoyment~

Propaganda Feedback.

Propaganda is an inevitable effect that we do @ war. I believe Paul & the other troops decided to follow the propaganda to fight is because they do not know the real hidden truth. They decide to hear what all the propaganda has to offer. But now, since they have experience what it is like to JOIN and KNOW what war is like, they will begin to have different views. Right now, we are believing what is happening in Iraq because we are not there to know the truth. We do things because our government runs our lives as to which rules we have. What we abide and what we break. Propaganda around the U.S. can be different in others views. We all have different opinions as to what extent we consider how propaganda is used. Some may think it is great because we do need more troops to help out @ war. But some may not think it is because we are risking our lives to save the U.S. I consider it scary because there are horrible news on the TV, and heard some stories of the dead relatives is heart aching. However, we still have to live w/ the propaganda everyday of our lives.

Desiree's Baby Feedback

Blog Post #3: What did you think of the story's ending? Is it plausible in our society today? Why?

The story's ending was quite a twist. Armand started to ignore Desiree because he thinks she is not white; however, it turns out that Armand's mother is the one to blame. It is so ironic because I thought Desiree would be the one depressed her whole life. But then in the end, she writes a letter telling Armand that his Mother is cursed with his own race.

Yes, it is plausible in our society today. A lot of strange things happen in our society and race is one of them to be talked about. Sometimes, when you are in an adopted family or you don't know where you are coming from, you often think you are a certain race. In some cases, it turns out that, that adopted child is a totally different race and if I was a friend of that adopted child, I would accept. I think anyone, who is not racist in our society, is pleasingly acceptable of this case. Everyone should have a chance for acceptance. Sometimes race can make who you who you are, but if you want yourself to be an individual, then you deserve a chance of acceptance.

The Lottery Feedback

Blog Post #2: How does "The Lottery" suggest that unspeakable acts of violence can take place anywhere at any time and that they can be committted by the most ordinary people?

The Lottery lets us think about the true sides of each individual. Even though there may be some "ordinary" looking people around us, you do not know what other motives they make be thinking about. In my opinion, that is why we take time to "trust" someone to know that they are there for us and not for other beneficial or violent ideas. Violence can be committed anywhere because there are always people around. The Lottery tells us this by stating that even the adults are with their children, they are not fully protected. Most of the characters in "the lottery" knows how the game is played and for them to not stop the game, shows that their unspeakable acts are dangerous.

Historia de un Letrero & Mike German's "The Human Condition" Feedback.

Blog Post #1: What do the film and the photo reveal about the human condition?

Historia de un Letrero: This short film reveals about how our community and society react to the lifestyles of each other. The blind man simply wrote "Have Compassion. I am blind." It tells the passer byers nothing really meaningful and that's why they walk on. For example, there is only a big commotion when a celebrity ends up at the latest hotspot, but when I, for instance, walks into that same hotspot... I will just be another "regular" person. "Today is a beautiful day but I can not see it." This statement gives more meaning and it breeds off a different meaning. It reveals to us that the human condition is not very kind unless there is something extravagant about it. Though we are not kind, I think there are many reasons beyond that. What if the passer byers happen to be living a really hard life too? Even if they are not blind, they work hard for their own money and there can be many more reasons too.

Mike German: Mike German's photo tells us that our society is not safe and we just have to live the life that we are in. You see a figure with polished shoes and living the life. He needs to take care of himself. The man on the floor with dirty toes and jeans probably has cancer and is just lying there. Judging from the clothes, he probably is poor too. I guess people just keep walking on because they do not want to contact any disease that the person of the floor may carry. All we want is to live happy and live as long as we can.
